  Dear Friends:
  
  For many decades, I have dedicated myself to making the Allen County Republican Party Indiana’s premiere political organization. I have committed myself to being a chairman and a leader in whom you could vest your trust.
  
  For the past two years, I have done this while also working hard to see my family through very troubling, personal times. Most families have the good fortune to experience their difficult moments in private. Unfortunately, as you have seen in recent days, that has not been the case for the Shine family.
  
  Simply put, I love serving as your chairman. I deeply appreciate the support you have shown me. You have my assurance that I have led my life, both public and private, with integrity, decency and unwavering respect for the people around me.
  
  I believe I have done my job as chairman in such a way that, were it not for the recent public disclosures, you would never have known of my family’s personal troubles.
  
  I am also confident that this episode will be resolved soon, with all involved concluding that frayed nerves – and not some other unthinkable offense – were to blame.
